Five Things Couples Should Know When Considering Divorce in a Bad Economy:

1) You do not have to move out of the marital home to be legally separated.

2) You might want to stay in your marriage for the next few months or even years to see if the economy will turn around and the value of your marital assets (your home, investments, pension accounts, etc.) will increase--if that is important to you.

3)  If you were considering divorce and are facing foreclosure, start living separate and apart.

4)  If ending your marriage is at all on your mind, suggest to your spouse to start reducing your expenses now--even if you've never talked to your spouse about ending your marriage--because marital debt is joint debt.

5)  Many marriages end over financial issues in a good economy, so don't beat yourself up if your marriage ends over financial issues in a bad economy.
